Soil Farmer of the year Virtual Farm walk with 2020 winner Alex Brewster

Soil Farmer of the year Virtual Farm walk with 2020 winner Alex Brewster

Event date:
Tuesday, October 20, 2020 - 13:30 to 15:30

Come along and find out why Alex Brewster has been awarded 2020 Livestock Soil Farmer of the year!

Alex farms 1000ha at Rotmell Farm in Perthshire, which is comprised of 130ha of improved pasture plus hill ground. Alex has always been interested in farming with the environment but started experimenting with rotational grazing in 2013. The grazing has now morphed into a mob grazing system which has brought about improvements in the soil structure and rooting depth of plants, nutrient availability, pasture utilisation, stock health and growth rates, and the length of time that the stock are able to graze. Alex is seeing his soils adapt and change, and is now focussed on building more resilience into his system.

The farm walk will be run virtually via Zoom and attendees will get a chance to understand more about the farming system at Rotmell and the transition to a more regenerative soil focussed approach.

There will also be a chance to hear about Rotmell's exciting Scottish Government / EU funded farm innovation project (Rock on Soils) evaluating the potential for basic silicate rock fines to improve soil carbon sequestration levels on-farm.

There will be lots of time for discussion and questions.

To book your place please follow this link to the Eventbrite page.

If you have any questions then please get in touch with Becky on [email protected] or by phone on 07875 356611.
