Calculating the carbon footprint of your farm is the first step to reducing the environmental impact of your farm business. It is one of the main services that FCCT offers to farmers, as part of our commitment to offering free, impartial advice and support to any farmer or grower wishing to reduce their carbon emissions and/or increase carbon sequestration.
FCCT has now released version 4 of the Farm Carbon Calculator, 9 years after it launched the very first version. It has come a long way since then and has cemented its place as one of the best carbon calculators available to farmers anywhere in the world. Free for all users, the Farm Carbon Calculator is even more user friendly than before, is still the only one available that fully counts all carbon sequestration on farm, and works on the basis of the whole farm rather than by product or commodity.
Some of the features of the latest version include:
- Every factor has been checked and updated
- Some brand new factors, for example renewable energy mix in electricity, average woodland sequestration, and concrete road per square metre
- Help and guidance has been improved
- Results are displayed more clearly
- A PDF download of all results is available
We have produced a handy infographic guide on how to fill in the Calculator, and have produced a range of fact sheets to help farmers and growers understand the relative emissions and sequestration costs and opportunities of various products and processes on farms.
