Webinar: Tools for the Biomass Trade

This free webinar is organised by Biomass Connect and is part of our involvement in the Centre for High Carbon Capture Cropping project.

In this webinar, our expert panel will demonstrate how to get the best out of the Envirocrops and Farm Carbon Calculator to help you understand the highest-yielding crop options, the income potential, the markets that are in your area, the suppliers you’ll need, the carbon savings and more.

Envirocrops is a free data-driven web app to compare the suitability of biomass crops across the UK.

Lizzy Parker: Farm Carbon Toolkit

Lizzy oversees the updates to our farm carbon calculator. Lizzy previously worked analysing large data sets from biochemical analysis of crop plants and led on projects supporting research software development at the University of Sheffield. Having also worked in the charity sector helping constituents communicate climate change issues with their local and national decision-makers, Lizzy is interested in overcoming barriers to the adoption of more sustainable practices. Her training as a soil biologist has led to a passion for the need to protect and safeguard the potential of our agricultural soils.

Lizzy grew up on the border of Somerset and Devon in a rural farming community. She is now based in Sheffield where she recently completed her PhD researching the effects of mycorrhizal fungi on barley during drought. She has a masters degree in Plant and Microbial Biology (MRes) and a degree in Biology with a Modern Language (BSc Hons). In her spare time, Lizzy volunteers with Foodworks, a Sheffield-based charity who repurpose surplus food and also grow their own within the city using regenerative principles.

Webinar: “The principles and practice of crop disease management through soil and mineral health”

A webinar with Mike Harrington of Edaphos and Hannah Jones of Farm Carbon Toolkit

Thursday 7th November, 6pm – 7pm

This is a National Lottery-funded Farm Net Zero (FNZ) event

Mike Harrington is well respected throughout the industry for his innovative thinking and solutions to address crop health challenges. He takes a holistic view of the soil and plant health and provides solutions integrating biological and chemical solutions where necessary. In this webinar, Mike will introduce a range of mineral and biological applications which enhance the natural disease resistance in plant.

Hannah Jones, who did a PhD in plant pathology a long time ago, will introduce aspects of plant defence which will link to practical in-field plant health management.

This webinar provides the background to two Farm Net Zero field trials at Tregooden and Pensipple Farms aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of cereal production. An event is planned in April 2025 to look at the trial progress.

Carbon Footprint your farm with The Farm Carbon Calculator

We get it – carbon footprinting your farm can be hard, and sometimes we all face problems fitting all the farm information we have into an online carbon calculator. We are here to help – because the results are so worth it.

Drop into one of our in-person clinics at major upcoming events to have your questions answered, or join one online from your own home. Write queries down if they are hard, and we give you some great advice. We’re also happy to help look at your reports, or any other questions you have.

Webinar: Three major farm carbon calculators outline a roadmap to harmonisation

The three major farm carbon calculators featured in the Defra Report Harmonisation of Carbon Accounting Tools for Agriculture – SCF0129 recently announced a collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), intended to harmonise the methodologies used in calculating the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from agriculture.

To share more details about the work we are doing together, we will be holding a joint webinar on the 11th September 2024 at 1pm – 2pm. Everyone is welcome to join!

The webinar is free. Please register here if you would like to join us.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. We look forward to seeing you there!
