  • Data Assistant

    As interest in our Farm Carbon Calculator software continues to grow, we are seeking a Data Assistant who will help us to achieve our ambition to provide the most trusted, robust and highly-regarded Farm Carbon Calculator. This is an exciting role embedded in the fast-growing and friendly team. Your work will contribute to supporting farms across the UK (and beyond) to understand their carbon footprint and take real, practical steps in the transition towards a fair, just and nature-friendly decarbonisation.

    We are an incredibly dedicated team of advisors and experts, passionate about farming and how we can best support farmers to understand and act on their carbon footprint. Working within our Calculator team, you will report to the Calculator Manager to support our Calculator development team. This will include checking and updating datasets; contributing to the testing of our software; using existing workflows to clean and process information.

    Location: UK home-based with occasional travel required for team meetings and events. Candidates must have a valid right to work in the UK.
    Salary: £26,000 - £28,000 pro rata, based on experience
    Hours: 30 - 37.5 hours per week, depending on preference

  • Farm Carbon and Soils Advisor

    The Farm Carbon Toolkit (FCT) is a leading, independent farmer-led UK enterprise. We support farmers and growers to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and increase their carbon sequestration. For over 10 years, we have furthered the understanding of greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture, providing tools for measurement and delivering projects that inspire real action on the ground.

    ​​You will be working on a range of farmer advisory projects in the north of England and Scotland, supporting them to reduce business carbon emissions and increase carbon sequestration.

    This is an exciting opportunity to support farmers to respond positively to the climate emergency. We expect you to be highly motivated and knowledgeable about the practical application of how farmers can reduce their carbon footprint and improve their soil health and performance. We expect applicants to have an experience of farming that enables them to interact with and support farmers, quickly building trust and rapport. To support you, we provide specialist training on-farm carbon footprinting, together with ongoing support as required in each project.

    Location: Home-based with regular travel throughout the north of England, Scotland and occasionally further afield.
    Salary: £28,620 - £34,500 pro rata, based on experience
    Hours: Full time - 37.5 hours / wk (part-time requests will be considered, please stipulate this request in your covering letter).

  • Soil Sampler (contractor)

    The Farm Carbon Toolkit (FCT) is a leading, independent farmer-led UK enterprise. We support farmers and growers to reduce their carbon emissions and increase their carbon sequestration. For over 10 years, we have furthered the understanding of greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture, providing tools for measurement and delivering projects that inspire real action on the ground.

    We are seeking self-employed individuals to undertake soil sampling across a range of farms for the soil carbon project and wider consultancy work. The soil sampling follows a stringent protocol and involves sampling for carbon, but also the ability to assess the soil sites for a range of other soil health parameters including structural condition, biological activity and general soil and crop health. Training will be given but prior experience in soil assessment would be an advantage.
    This work will involve visiting farms to collect soil samples and other data reflecting farm management practices and arranging for the analysis of soil samples.

    Location: UK home-based with travel required to collect samples on-farm. Candidates must have a valid right to work in the UK.
    Salary: £150 per day
    Hours: The workload varies depending on our projects. We cannot guarantee regular hours every week, as soil sampling is seasonal and location-specific.
