Part of our 2024 SFOTY farm walks series
Bucksum, based in Buckinghamshire is the business of Tracy Russell and David Newman where they produce over 40 varieties of salads, herbs, fruits and vegetables in their market garden. This year’s winners of the Soil Farmer of the Year competition, David and Tracy operate with huge attention to detail, focusing on rotation and maximising soil health and functionality to provide nutritious, high quality produce whilst enhancing the biodiversity of their landscape.
The business operates from 16 acres of rented land, with approximately 4 acres cropped each year. Through integrating herbal leys, homemade soil improvers and a four-year rotation David and Tracy have created a thriving food business with resilient soil at its heart, able to supply their farm shop and beyond.
The farm walk will begin at 15.30 and will provide an opportunity to further hear and see how Bucksum’s management strategy has benefitted their business, leading them to be awarded First Place in this year’s Soil Farmer of the Year competition.
This event will take place outside, please wear suitable clothing and footwear. Light refreshments will be provided.
